Hawai‘i’s public schools depend on millions of federal dollars each year to provide programs and services for local keiki. A large portion of this funding comes through the Federal Impact Aid Program, and it all starts with one simple step: parents and guardians completing the annual survey.

On September 3, every public school sent home Federal Impact Aid Survey Cards. To secure funding, parents and guardians must complete and return these cards promptly. A low response rate could mean a loss of millions of dollars for our keiki.

What to know:

  • Fill out one card per child, not per household
  • Complete all information and include full work and home addresses
  • Every child enrolled in a Hawai‘i public school on September 3 should have a card submitted

Impact Aid is allocated based on how many federally connected students are enrolled in schools. That’s why the survey is so important: every completed card directly impacts the amount of funding Hawai‘i receives.

Last year alone, Hawai‘i schools received $38.1 million through Impact Aid. These funds helped pay for teachers, textbooks, computers, utilities, special education services and Transition Centers that assist military-connected students who frequently relocate. Without a strong survey response rate, Hawai‘i risks losing millions of dollars that sustain these critical programs.

Because student enrollment changes year to year, the U.S. Department of Education requires schools to collect new survey data annually. Schools cannot complete the survey for parents, even if they already have the information on file. Your participation is the only way to ensure your child is counted.

A few minutes of your time ensures continued support for our keiki. Please fill out and return your Impact Aid Survey Card today.
