As the United States prepares to commemorate its 250th anniversary in 2026, Hawai‘i is stepping up to ensure its communities, and contributions, are represented in this national milestone. In alignment with the U.S. Semiquincentennial Commission’s call for local engagement, Governor Josh Green established the Hawai‘i Semiquincentennial Commission.

MACRO proudly supports this effort and is exploring ways to participate in statewide commemorations that highlight Hawai‘i’s diverse cultural heritage and historic military contributions. The commission’s goal is to promote civic understanding, honor those who have defended our freedoms, and share the stories of people from all backgrounds who helped shape the nation, including those from Hawai‘i.

Opportunities to participate may include educational programs, local exhibitions, commemorative events, and cultural storytelling. MACRO is particularly interested in how the observance can reflect the values and voices of both military and civilian communities in Hawai‘i.

The official observance period extends through 2027, providing time to plan and engage the public in meaningful and inclusive ways. Stay tuned for ways MACRO and its partners will contribute to this once-in-a-generation milestone.
